Background: The Miao(Hmong) People

The Miao were just as fierce as the Mongols, though with a peaceful nature, content with the simple mountain life they had. Once living on the shores of Yellow River, near present-day Beijing, they were driven south after the legendary battle between ChiYou - Miao leader on one side and alliance between HuangDi and YanDi - Chinese leaders on the other side. The Miao were much smaller in numbers but still history writings say that "The Miao won 9 battles but they lost the 10th". After their defeat, the Miao re-established a new kingdom into the lower reaches of the Yellow River, The San-Miao Kingdom.
The Miao are spiritual, superstitious, and beautifully dressed people, and interestingly half of the miao people are blonde hair blue eyed asians. Very skilled and strategic in combat, they wore full body armor consisting of metal helmets, thick buffalo hide covered with copper plates and also covered their arms and legs with iron mail and thick iron bands. They fought with Shield in one hand and a spear in the other and a dagger held between their teeth. They carried powerful crossbows with poison tipped arrows that struck with amazing force.

Background: Uyghur people

The Chinese sources indicate that the Uygurs are the direct descendants of the Huns. The ancestors of the Uyghur tribe were Altaic pastoralists called Tiele, who lived in the valleys south of Lake Baikal and around the Yenisei River.  The geographic location on the ancient trade routes between the East and the West, brought a cosmopolitan character to the Uyghur region, marked by linguistic, racial, and religious tolerance, but also made another populations interested in controlling those lands.  So it happened that the Tiele (Uyghur people) were eventually subjugated by the Xiongnu Mongols  in c 300 BC, who put them to work manufacturing weapons.
The Uyghurs had an extensive knowledge of medicine and medical practice. As the Mongols did not have their own written language, the Mongolian vertical script was developed as an adaption of the Uyghur script to write the Mongolian language. It was introduced by the Uyghur scribe Tatar-Tonga, who had been captured by the Mongols during a war in around 1204.

Background: The Xiongnu

Pastoral nomadic people wandering in search of grazing lands for their herds of horses, cows and sheep, this people has its origins in North East of Ordos desert, living along both shores of Yellow River. Xiongnu had no walled cities and did not engage in agriculture. The men were formidable warriors, trained from an early age to hunt on horseback with bow and arrow.
Xiongnu Empire was the first of its kind on the Eurasian steppe, and serves as a seed for the rising of the Mongol Empire. The Ordos was an important gathering point for the various pastoral peoples of Inner Mongolia, and it is more accurate to describe the Xiongnu as a confederacy of these various groups rather than a single, unified culture.
Though the Han continued to hold the Xiongnu and their nomadic way of life in disdain, they could not ignore the very real military threat they posed to the chinese Han Empire. To avert continued hostilities, the Han court was forced to maintain marital ties with the shanyu and offer annual tribute of silk, wines, rice and other foodstuffs.

Grannie is the kind of woman who is at home in the battlefield and in the kitchen.  She was the youngest of her 6 brothers and 3 sisters, and became the leader of the Uyghur Clan after her siblings died one by one.  Grannie has been married for years and years to Lupus Digfoot.  Lupus was rather dashing and romantic when he was young, and courted Grannie during the annual horse races.   Their first child, a son, was born three months after the wedding.  Grannie never really wanted to get married at all, which is why Lupus and Grannies father plotted together to manipulate her into marriage.
